INTRODUCTION

On this page are various sources in this area for native plants. Note that many of the nurseries are not exclusively for California natives, and that many of the locations offer catalogs, seeds and books as well as container plants.

Saturday, November 10, 2007, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Eaton Canyon Nature Center

December 2005There was a good variety of reasonably priced California native plants and wildflower seeds appropriate for gardens in the Los Angeles basin, including plants for attracting birds and butterflies to your home garden. Over 1,000 plants were sold. Knowledgeable Chapter members were on hand to answer questions. There was printed material on gardening with California native plants. 11:00 a.m.: Audio-visual presentation, by author Alrie Middlebrook: The Plant Community Approach to Designing Native Gardens, based upon her book of the same title. This special program was in the Eaton Canyon Nature Center Auditorium.

Then, one week after the plant sale . . .

Saturday, November 17, 2007, 3 p.m.: Free native plant gardening workshop

This was a demonstration of how to plant natives, and attendees were given hands-on experience. The workshop was free, and was at Eaton Canyon Nature Center, in the Becky Rothenburg Memorial Garden. Attendees wore comfortable clothes. Gloves and tools were provided by the Nature Center. The workshop was run by Gabi and Cliff McLean.
